The first effort that you make to create a scrapbook is very likely not going to be a grand success.
Before you begin, you may experience a little anxiety about creating your scrapbook. I cannot stress enough how important planning and researching techniques are if you are new to scrapbooking. If you are still experiencing apprehension about getting started, here are a few helpful suggestions:
-One of the main complaints you hear from those who are new to scrapbooking is that they have reservations about cropping and working with their photos. If you have taken the proper steps to protect your pictures, including making copies of them and purchasing picture safe supplies, then there is no reason to be concerned. If worse comes to worse and you do accidentally have to discard a photo, you have another duplicate to make a copy from so there is no harm done.
-Purchase supplies that lighten the workload for your design. You can get more involved creatively in creating layouts for your scrapbook after you have some experience under your belt. To begin with, many scrapbooking stores sell ready to assemble layouts and kits that can cut out a lot of the grunt work involved in the layouts that are built from scratch. These sets generally come along with step by step instructions that make things easier as well.
-Start with simpler layouts and work your way up to the more complicated ones. Complicated layouts are much easier to take on once you have a little experience and working knowledge of how to use your tools and supplies.
-Find a support group. There are tons of experienced scrap bookers out there who are perfectly willing to help out newbies and give them tips and advice on how to get started scrapbooking. If you are uneasy and need a little guidance in order to begin, join a local or internet based scrapbooking group and ask for help. Some of these locally based groups even have sessions where groups of scrap bookers come together and work on layouts. Places such as these are excellent places for you to create your first few layouts and gain some confidence so that you can begin working on your own.
Scrapbooking is like everything else, it takes a little while to learn how to do it.
Here is a quick start guide to get you up and running on your very first page:
Choose a theme.
Choose and sort out your photos.
Get your supplies in hand.
Choose a photo or other item to be a focal point.
Crop your photos.
Add titles or phrases or other form of journaling.
Add the other stuff (small pieces of decoration and embellishments).
Prearrange all items before pasting.
Paste.
Tips and Suggestions:
-Always consider themes in relation to the scrapbook’s overall theme and topic.
-Never crop an original photo.
-Too much can be worse then too little when embellishments are concerned.
-Take your time.
-Never try to create ‘filler’ pages. There will be plenty of worthy additions to your scrapbook without you having to worry about filling up room.
