Many people are looking for
scrapbooking rooms ideas and specifically things to consider for
organizing the space. When it comes to setting up a space for your
scrapbook supplies, having a dedicated room is of course the most desired of
all the options available. A dedicated room allows you to spread out your
supplies, have a space to get away from it all and above all create! Here
are a few ideas and considerations to keep in mind when creating and
organizing your own scrapbook space.
Accessibility
When choosing a room to use as a dedicated scrapbook room, you will
want to go with one that is easy to get to and accessible. If you
enjoy spending most of your days and evenings with your family, then
making a scrapbook room up in the attic or down in the basement may
not be the best solution for you. You will end up lonely and not
wanting to go in there to create. You may even find yourself
pulling things out of the space and bringing them down to your
living room floor! In a case such as this, you may want to consider
turning a room off your living room into a scrapbook room. A good
example of a room that may work could be a dining room that is not
used very often for it's original intended purpose. Turn it into
your very own scrapbooking room! If you are the type of person who
needs to get away from everyone for a bit and needs some solitude to
create, then perhaps using a spare room upstairs, in the attic or
down in the basement may indeed work for your needs.
Lighting
Lighting is a major consideration when deciding on a scrapbook
room. If possible, pick the brightest and lightest room in the
house. Which room gets the most amount of direct sunlight?
Which room has the most amount of windows or skylights? The
most amount of natural light that comes into the space, the
better. If you have a room you would like to use that is not
very bright, you will need to make sure you have enough
artificial light to make the space work well.
Electricity
When selecting a room to be used as a scrapbook studio, it is a good
idea to make sure there are enough electrical outlets available.
Many scrapbooking tools require electricity to power them up. As
well, you may have a t.v. in there, your computer and of course so
added artificial lights as well.
Ventilation
Be sure that the room you decide to go with in making your own
scrapbook room has the ability for good ventilation. This may mean
doors or windows that open. A lot of scrapbooking supplies, e.g.
paints and adhesives, are not good to inhale. They should be used
in a well ventilated space. If this is not possible, then consider
working on that particular project out of doors.
Space
Do you have a lot of scrapbooking supplies? You may require a large
room! When finding a room to use as a scrapbook studio, you will
need to weigh the amount of supplies you have with the size of the
room that is available. If you have more than will fit in the room,
go through your stash and set aside the supplies you do not use very
often or no longer desire. You can either put them in your basement
or attic to store, give them away or have a big scrapbooking yard
sale! Another consideration to keep in mind when thinking of a
space for your room is having guests. Do you have friends who
scrapbook? Would you like to host crops for your friends? Then
make sure the room is large enough with a big enough work table and
spaces for chairs to be added in as well.
Color
When picking out a wall color for your scrapbook room, you may want
to go with a lighter color rather than a darker one. The simple
reason for this is that a lighter color will make the room appear
brighter and lighter. Also, think about what colors may set off
your art work the best. Some people like to hang framed scrapbook
layouts and other projects on the wall. Lastly, go with a calm
color, one that relaxes you, one that you are gravitated towards and
one that will inspire you to create.
Furniture
Did you know that there is furniture available in today's market that is
geared specifically for scrapbookers? This type of furniture is made
with the scrapbooker in mind. Desks and shelving are made wide enough
to store 12" x 12" sized paper, there are cupboards and drawers with
spacers specifically made to hold embellishments and tools as well.
Often scrapbookers will use an island as their main work table. These
islands will be fitted with plenty of drawers and cupboards to help you
organize your supplies. There are also wire and wooden stands available
to hold all your paper and better allow you to organize it by color,
manufacturer, or theme.
Furniture placement should not only consider the best lighting areas,
but also where the electrical outlets are in the room. If you like to
sit at a desk on your computer, you will need to place the desk close to
an outlet. If you have an island for a work table, then you may want to
have that near an outlet as well so you can use the electronic tools
right at your table.
Accessories
Carousels are great for storing scrapbooking tools, adhesives, pens and
any other supplies may want readily accessible. This type of accessory
is on a lazy susan of sorts so it rotates around and you can easily find
what you are looking for. This is a great item to have right on your
work table.
Embellishments can be stored in jars, in trays, or in specialty plastic
lidded containers. Keep your favorite ones out in view so that you can
remember to use them!
Store your sticker packs, rub-ons and chipboard packs in clip on metal
stands. Or, you can separate them out into folders or binders. Another
option is to organize them into drawers with spacers.
The above considerations should be helpful for you to keep in mind when
setting up your own scrapbooking room. Taking a look at each of these
ideas will help make your space work for you.
