The first mistake that many scrap bookers make is not taking the proper time to prepare for their scrapbooking session.
By doing this, we only cause ourselves more potential bumps in the road during the making of our scrapbook.
When you sit down a table to begin, and you are properly prepared, with all of your supplies in order, then you can go to town, grasping easily the tools that you need to work with, thus making things flow much easier.
Another mistake that is commonly made while scrapbooking is that we try to place too many pictures onto on page or layout. This gives the feeling of clutter and is not very attractive.
It looks much better when you place special emphasis on one or two photos, offsetting them with a careful design, and use the others on a different page.
This being said, don’t limit yourself when you begin a certain pictures, you will need to have a good selection so that you can place them in the best order and layout possible.
Another common mistake of
newer scrap bookers is getting in a rush or overwhelmed by all of the
materials and supplies used when scrapbooking.
A very large collection of pictures can be threatening to anyone. Organization can work wonders to make you feel more secure and less threatened by the sheer mass of your collection.
The more organized that you are, the better you can plan out how you will scrapbook the pages.
Take your time, and if you begin to feel frustrated, rather then rushing to get to a stopping point, stop right there and just pick it back up when you feel better about it.
One mistake that is
commonly made by new and experienced scrap bookers alike is over cropping of
photos. When it comes to cropping, less is always better.
You can always go back and remove more if necessary but you cannot repair the picture after you have already cropped it.
One simple way to avoid this frustration is by marking your crop lines lightly with a pencil before you begin cutting.
A mistake that we all make
at one time or another, choosing to purchase discount albums in an effort to
save money.
If you want to bargain hunt while scrapbooking, the time to do it is not when searching for a binder.
Save the bargain hunting for other less significant supplies. The ideal photo album should have the following features:
-The pages lie flat so that they do not get bent.
-Pages are thick and have a substantial strength to them so that they will hold up during use.
-Chemical free composition.
-Holds a reasonable amount of pages.
-Have polypropylene covers in order to protect your content.
The last, and probably most universal mistake that scrap bookers make would be over spending on supplies.
It is not a great idea, especially if you are new to scrapbooking, to invest a serious amount of money into supplies.
If you choose that scrapbooking is not for you and decide to find another hobby that suits you better, you have a ton of supplies that you have no use for.
It is much wiser to limit your spending to smart, well thought out purchases that will bring you the most ease of use while creating your scrapbook.
Whenever I get overanxious about purchasing my supplies, I just think back to the times when I have seen others scrapbook when so many supplies were not available and they made do with pictures and dime store embellishments.
The old ‘oh that’s so cute—I’m
going to buy it’ mentality will send you to the poor house inside a crafting
store!
