Organization is one of the most crucial tasks that face many scrap bookers! If you are good at organizing things, then there is a good possibility that you will excel in scrapbooking.

If it is an area that you need to work on, I definitely suggest that you begin your organization efforts before you start to assemble your scrapbook.

Gather all of your supplies in one place.

It is best, if you can afford to do so, that you keep supplies that might be useable at other times around the home separate from the same supplies that you use for scrapbooking.

Assemble like items with like. Any item that is too large to fit well into a container should be stored close by in an area that is within visual association with your other supplies.

The idea behind this organization method is that you will spend less time getting ready to scrapbook, and more time actually doing so if your supplies are at hand.

Many people will advise that you invest in some form of workspace and storage area at this point. I do not.

I have been scrapbooking for over five years and I store all of my supplies in those Rubbermaid containers that you can purchase at Wal-Mart for $4.99.

I normally try to buy the clear kind so that I can actually see into the container to find items rather then take them all out and rummage through them.

Labeling your containers is a good idea and is helpful, although who wants to write out a list as long as their arm for the boxes that contain the smaller items? Not me, hence, the see-through containers.

While I do not suggest purchasing a table or set of shelving to use for your scrapbooking, I do suggest that you purchase a SMALL set of craft drawers in which to keep your embellishments and other every small items in.

This is helpful in keeping them separate and also knocks down of the risk of them being spilt. You can purchase these at any craft store although you can get something very similar and a bit cheaper at your local hardware store.

A small bag that is packed with a sampling of your favorite supplies is a great idea especially if you are a member of a scrapbooking group and you will be scrapbooking away from home.

I normally suggest that if this is a practice that you will undertake often, that you purchase an extra, cheaper set of scissors and basic tools for use specifically on these expeditions.

The reason that I suggest this is that it would be a shame to lose one of your favorite tools and not be able to find it. If you carry separate, cheaper supplies, you do not run the risk of doing this.

Finally, when it comes to keeping supplies organized, keep your tools and items picked up and in one area while you are scrapbooking.

If you are doing any major amount of scrapbooking, you are going to likely generate a mess.

It is much easier to clean this mess up if you can scoot the garbage can over to the table and just push the trash right into the can without the worry of accidentally scooting one of your supplies right in there with it.

If your tools and other items are placed where they belong and out of reach, then this cleanup process will move along much quicker.

Scrapbooking is a tedious activity. Many scrap bookers get lost by focusing on tiny details of their scrapbook, only to become frustrated and give up.

The only detail that I focus an extended amount of my time on in any of my scrapbooks is the cover.

Cover design is very important because it represents your scrapbook as a whole.

Focusing large amounts of time on certain layouts is okay, just be sure not to spend so much time on one layout in particular that you rush through others.

Because scrapbooking is a form of cataloging events, the ways in which you organize your content, supplies, and time is essentially important.

The secret to great organization particularly if you are new to scrapbooking and are not familiar with many of the techniques used when doing so is planning.

If you do the proper amount of planning and research, then your first scrapbooking experience should progress along easily and smoothly.
