The birth of a new child brings a very special time for mom and dad. A
special time that more and more parents are trying to catalog for future years
of enjoyment of memories. There are so many items that you come across during
this time that you will want to cherish for year to come. The problem is, is
that is the haste and excitement of a new baby’s arrival, new parents often
become swept up in the present rather then considering how to preserve those
times for the future. With a bit of planning and forethought, those special
times can be special not only while experienced, but for years and years to
come.
In my opinion, the best scrapbooking books for babies are ones that contain
actual memorabilia in them, not just pictures. After all, pictures are a very
important part of scrapbooking but so is the preservation of memory and
sentiment in general. I have a large box for each of my children in which I
store the things that were perhaps too large or valuable to place into their
scrapbook.
Here are a few tips and ideas that should get you thinking of things that you
could possibly keep or place into your new babies’ scrapbook. Some of these
items you might not view as being too important, and others may find that I have
left out items that they consider to be crucial. Remember, scrapbooking is a
very personal undertaking and these tips are not meant to serve as a guide but
rather as something to get you started with some ideas of your own.
New Baby:
Warmer hat used in hospital
Baby’s first clothes
Congratulations Cards, arrival cards
Band-Aid from his first immunization
Lock of hair (from baby’s very first hair cut)
Baby’s first blanket
Label from first jar of baby food (am I reaching??) J
Gift list from baby shower
Favorite pair of baby booties
First receiving blanket
Diaper from first package
Christening gown
Baby Shower invitation
Piece of wrapping paper from baby shower gift
Plate from baby shower
Pacifier
Any items from day of birth - hospital bracelets, mom's menu, newspaper
clippings,
Diary of mom's OB visits (weights, etc.)
hospital bill, visitors ID cards, cover off of TV Guide.
Ultrasound pictures
Hospital mask that father wore
First rattle or toy
Older Child:
First tooth from ‘tooth fairy visit’
*Awards
*The first time they wrote their numbers or alphabet
*Pictures drawn and other artwork
*School art and papers
*Sticker from first dental visit
*Anything from child's very first day of school: teacher's welcome letter,
schoolwork, ect.
*Preschool gift certificate
These items should get the creative juices flowing. The thing about children is
that they grow up so quickly that if you do not act soon and try to plan and
save some of these types of pieces of memorabilia, then it is very likely that
you will miss out on the opportunity to save and preserve your child’s memories
from their youngest years to their older ones.
